Federal Police target INSS pension fraud scheme in Alagoas

The Brazilian Federal Police have launched the third phase of ‘Operation Geração Espontânea’ to investigate a criminal scheme involving fraudulent death pensions from the National Social Security Institute (INSS) in Alagoas.

Investigators allege that the group used data from deceased individuals, obtained through official systems, to create false documents or documents containing ideologically false information. This material was reportedly used to establish fictitious dependents and submit fraudulent pension claims through both administrative and judicial channels.

Authorities are executing 18 search and seizure warrants in the municipalities of União dos Palmares, Pilar, Marechal Deodoro, Coruripe, and Maceió. The operation aims to seize electronic devices, documents, and storage media to clarify the group's structure and identify the destination of illegally obtained funds, which included monthly benefits and significant retroactive payments.

The investigation began in 2022 following data analysis and has been conducted in collaboration with the INSS and Social Security intelligence units.
