Brazil Public Ministry launches multiple legal actions across various sectors

The Brazilian Public Ministry is conducting various legal and administrative actions across several states to address social, environmental, and consumer rights issues.

In Acre, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has recommended that the State Health Secretariat (Sesacre) and Indigenous Special Sanitary Districts (DSEIs) stop requiring civil documents, such as CPF or photo IDs, as a prerequisite for indigenous patients to access healthcare services through the 'Tratamento Fora de Domicílio' (TFD) program. The goal is to ensure that recent contact indigenous populations can receive medical care without bureaucratic barriers.

In the Amazon region, the MPF has filed a civil public action seeking the creation of an integrated national system to monitor mercury contamination in rivers, sediments, and fish, specifically targeting areas affected by mining in Amazonas, Rondônia, and Roraima. This follows claims of state inertia regarding standardized monitoring and laboratory capacity.

Other regional actions include the MPPA investigating six private schools in Belém for compliance with inclusive education policies for students with disabilities, and the MPAM taking legal action against the municipality of Juruá for failing to implement adequate measures to prevent and combat wildfires during the dry season.
