US economy shows modest growth according to Fed Beige Book

The Federal Reserve’s latest Beige Book report indicates that the United States economy has experienced modest growth since early July. Ten of the twelve regional districts reported slight to moderate economic expansion, while two remained unchanged.

Industrial activity has been bolstered by strong demand in the defense sector and data center investments. However, the automotive sector faced headwinds from high fuel prices, low consumer confidence, and increased financing costs. While residential construction has declined, non-residential construction—particularly for data centers—has seen growth.

Consumer spending showed a slight increase, though high-end consumers are becoming more sensitive to prices. Employment across the country rose very slightly.

Economic sentiment remains mixed due to uncertainties regarding energy prices, international conflicts, and political developments. Additionally, economist Mohamed El-Erian warned of ongoing pressure in the bond market, noting a structural imbalance between the supply of government debt and the capacity of traditional buyers like China and Japan to absorb it.
