Cryptocurrency markets face new regulations and volatility

The cryptocurrency market is facing significant regulatory and economic shifts. In Russia, the Bank of Russia has clarified that direct peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions between individuals will be prohibited starting July 1, 2027. Under new guidelines, residents are restricted from transferring digital assets from regulated accounts to non-custodial, self-managed wallets. While the country is opening a regulated market—including authorizing Sberbank to provide exchange services—the move effectively mandates the use of licensed intermediaries for all trades after the deadline.

In the United States, the SEC has approved binary options tied to the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) of Coinbase, Marathon Digital, and Robinhood. Unlike traditional options, these products settle on operational metrics such as trading volume, revenue, and Bitcoin mined, rather than stock prices.

On the economic front, the broader crypto market saw a decline in total capitalization, falling approximately 6.31% to $2.71 trillion. This downturn included significant drops in major assets like Ether and various altcoins, accompanied by $615.2 million in liquidations across major exchanges. Meanwhile, historical analysis suggests that Federal Reserve interest rate hikes can create headwinds for Bitcoin, as investors often shift from risky assets to bonds in high-rate environments.
