Directo a México program to end following Federal Reserve decision

The Banco de México (Banxico) has announced that the 'Directo a México' program will cease operations on November 20, 2026. This decision follows a notification from the United States Federal Reserve regarding its intention to discontinue the cross-border electronic fund transfer service.

Directo a México is a mechanism jointly administered by Banxico and the Federal Reserve, primarily used for transferring funds from participating U.S. financial institutions to bank accounts in Mexico. A significant portion of the program's flow consists of U.S. government pension payments to residents in Mexico.

Both institutions are coordinating an orderly closure to ensure all transactions are processed and settled securely. While the specific infrastructure of this program is ending, the closure does not halt remittances between the U.S. and Mexico. Users will need to transition to alternative methods, such as international bank transfers, digital platforms, or specialized remittance companies.
