Federal Reserve warns AI investments may drive inflation

The Federal Reserve is monitoring how massive investments in artificial intelligence may contribute to inflation. Austan Goolsbee, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, warned that the rapid growth in AI is driving up prices beyond the technology sector.

As companies build extensive data center networks to meet demand, the resulting economic activity is creating signs of overheating. This is evidenced by rising costs in consumer electronics and a shortage of specialized construction personnel. The competition for labor between data center projects and traditional housing construction is further impacting the building sector.

Goolsbee noted that prices are increasing in industries not directly involved in providing data center components, suggesting a classic case of overheated demand where the need for products, services, and personnel outpaces supply.
