Federal Tribunal orders reinvestigation of gender violence claims in Cuautlancingo

The Mexico City Regional Chamber of the Federal Electoral Tribunal (TEPJF) has overturned a previous ruling regarding allegations of political violence against women in Cuautlancingo, Puebla. The federal court revoked a decision by the Puebla State Electoral Tribunal that had dismissed complaints filed by councilwoman Evelyn Camela Hernández against Mayor Omar Muñoz Alfaro.

The TEPJF determined that the local investigation was insufficient and that the facts were analyzed in a fragmented manner. Camela, a member of Movimiento Ciudadano, had reported facing obstacles in her duties, such as a lack of office space, equipment, and stationery, as well as being ignored by municipal staff. The federal magistrates concluded that the local authority failed to exhaust the necessary diligences to clarify the context of the complaints.
