Brazil TSE clarifies election result display error and high abstention

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has addressed technical issues following the first round of the 2026 elections. A 50-minute interruption occurred in the national visualization panel for presidential and vice-presidential results, starting at 19:14 and resolving by 20:04. The TSE clarified that this was caused by a high volume of simultaneous data in the 'Brasil' tab and only affected external public disclosure, not the actual internal vote counting or totaling process.

The first round of the elections saw a significant abstention rate of 21.08%, the highest for a general election first round in Brazil since 1998. Voters who did not participate in the first round can still vote in the second round on October 25, provided their voter registration remains regular. Those who failed to vote must justify their absence via the e-Título app or at an electoral office by December 3 to avoid fines of R$ 3.51 per round and other civil restrictions.
