Federal University of Technology, Ilaro targets 2027/28 launch

The Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI) in Ogun State is targeting the 2027/28 academic session to officially begin operations as a full-fledged university. Formerly known as the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, the institution is currently undergoing a strategic transition to complete its conversion.

Dr. Mukail Akinde, the Rector and Acting Vice-Chancellor, reported significant growth during his tenure since September 2022. The student population has increased from under 10,000 to over 27,000, and academic programmes have expanded from 34 to more than 100. The institution has also grown from six schools to eight, including the newly established School of Agriculture and the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology.

To facilitate the transition, committees led by Professor Ramon Bello and Dr. Charlotte Bose Iro-Idoro are managing various aspects of the change. The university is currently preparing for verification by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and is developing an Academic Brief and a new institutional Master Plan.
