Federal Way election guide and local career outreach
Washington voters will begin receiving mail-in ballots on October 14 ahead of the November 3 general election. In the 9th Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Adam Smith, who has held the seat since 1997, faces Republican challenger Doug Basler. Smith is campaigning on affordable housing and reproductive rights, while Basler is running on an “opportunity revolution” platform.
In the 30th Legislative District state Senate race, incumbent Democrat Claire Wilson faces Republican challenger Michael Rutland. Wilson, who has held the office since 2019, secured 62.12% of the vote in the August primary.
Separately, students at Dimmitt Middle School participated in Project Access, a national outreach initiative by the American Academy of Physician Associates and the National CARES Mentoring Movement. Local physician associates provided middle schoolers with hands-on medical experience and career information to increase representation of underrepresented communities in the medical field.
