Federal Way Police fatally shoot man outside Commons Mall

Federal Way Police officers fatally shot a man on Thursday evening, September 10, outside the Commons Mall. The incident occurred around 6:40 p.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting a man pointing a gun at people in the mall parking lot.

According to the Valley Independent Investigative Team, officers attempted to make contact with the individual, who then reportedly pointed a firearm at the officers. In response, officers discharged their weapons. Although officers and medical personnel provided aid, the man, described as a white male in his 20s or 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers or members of the public were injured during the encounter. The involved officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the man’s identity or the official cause of death. The investigation is being conducted by the Valley Independent Investigative Team, which includes several regional police departments and the King County Sheriff’s Office.
