Federal Workers Forum demands N300,000 minimum wage in Nigeria
The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has formally petitioned President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to increase the federal minimum wage from N70,000 to N300,000. The group is also seeking a maximum salary of N1.5 million for Level 17 officers.
In a letter dated September 2, 2026, the FWF argued that the N70,000 minimum wage approved in 2024 has not been fully implemented. The forum claims that instead of a consequential adjustment, workers received a flat N40,000 increase regardless of their grade level.
Describing the situation as an emergency, the FWF stated that the current economic conditions are unsustainable for federal employees. The group provided a proposed pay scale where a Level 1, Step 1 worker would earn N300,000, with incremental increases across various levels.
