Federalberghi marks 50 years and calls for rental regulations

Federalberghi is marking its 50th anniversary in Torri del Benaco with a celebration focused on the future of tourism in the Lake Garda region. The event will include a public assembly and discussions involving Italian Tourism Minister Gianmarco Mazzi and regional leaders to address the transformation of local tourism.

Simultaneously, Federalberghi Veneto is calling for urgent regional and national regulation of short-term holiday rentals. Citing data from a study on the shadow economy, the association noted that the number of private tourist accommodations in the Veneto region rose by 12.5% year-on-year, reaching nearly 40,000 listings.

Massimiliano Schiavon, president of Federalberghi Veneto, warned that unplanned growth in short-term rentals is impacting housing availability, increasing real estate prices, and straining public services. The association is advocating for measures such as temporary freezes on new licenses in areas at risk of overtourism and stricter safety standards to ensure fair competition with professional hotel services.
