Federação União Progressista negotiations shape Senate and gubernatorial candidacies in Brazil

Mayor Vinícius Labanca of São Lourenço da Mata denied any role in talks between federal deputy João Campos and the Federação União Progressista, saying the Popular Front is "open arms" to the federation but that he only extended an invitation for the federation to join the former Recife mayor’s slate. Labanca emphasized his personal friendship with federation president Eduardo da Fonte and stressed that no political negotiations took place.

In Mato Grosso, the Progressive Party (PP) announced the pre‑candidacy of businesswoman Margareth Buzetti for the Senate and named former mayor Cidinho Santos as her first substitute on the ticket led by ex‑governor Mauro Mendes. PP state president Nilson Leitão said the party will await the final decision of União Brasil, which is still choosing between supporting senator Jayme Campos or governor Otaviano Pivetta, before formally aligning its candidates within the federation’s unified slate.
