Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Advances Legislation on Domestic Violence

Tomislav Martinović, deputy chair of the Herzegovina‑Neretva Canton's Assembly and chair of the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) Parliament, said protecting families and women from violence is a legislative priority. He outlined recent FBiH laws – a special register for persons convicted of sexual offences against children, a law on protection from family and gender‑based violence, and amendments to the criminal code – and the adoption of a 2024‑2027 strategy for prevention and response.

Herzegovina‑Neretva Canton Premier Marija Buhač reinforced a zero‑tolerance stance, announcing strengthened coordination bodies, increased funding for police, social services, health, education and the judiciary, and continued support for multi‑sector teams and civil‑society partners. Both officials stressed that effective implementation, victim protection and punishment of perpetrators are essential to the new framework.
