Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina advances notary law to tighten anti‑money‑laundering controls

The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Justice Ministry announced that a new Notary Service Law, aligned with the Federation's Notary Chamber, has been forwarded to the parliamentary procedure. Minister Vedran Škobić said the draft incorporates agreed positions on key issues and is expected to be considered by the Federation Parliament soon.

A central element of the legislation is the introduction of a strict filter for contracts to enforce anti‑money‑laundering measures. Around 18,000 contracts were notarized last year without such controls; under the new law, notaries and lawyers will be obliged to apply the AML provisions. The government highlighted that the law supports compliance with international assessments such as MONEYVAL and aims to improve legal certainty and transparency in high‑risk areas like real‑estate transactions and company formation.
