Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina implements 1,000 KM newborn support

The Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy has established a uniform support payment of 1,000 KM for every newborn child in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH). This measure, introduced in 2024, creates a federal minimum support that does not depend on a family's place of residence, although local and cantonal benefits remain in place.

In 2024, over 16 million KM was paid out to more than 16,000 children. With similar numbers of applications recorded for 2025, the program is expected to have covered approximately 32,000 newborns with a total expenditure of roughly 32 million KM over the first two years. The program is scheduled to continue through 2026, with an annual planned budget of up to 16 million KM.

To facilitate the process, the ministry utilizes the ePorodilja online application. The system has been integrated with IDDEEA records to allow for automatic data verification, reducing the need for citizens to submit documentation that the state already possesses. Minister Adnan Delić noted that the program is becoming a stable budgetary policy, though officials acknowledge that financial support alone cannot resolve broader demographic challenges related to employment, housing, and childcare.
