Federation of Cuban Women marks 66th anniversary

The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) celebrated its 66th anniversary on August 23. Founded by Vilma Espín and Fidel Castro, the organization marked the milestone with various regional commemorations across Cuba, including Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Pinar del Río, and Las Tunas.

Leaders and members highlighted the organization's role in community support, food production, and addressing gender-based violence. In Villa Clara, officials noted high integration rates and the importance of vocational training. In Cienfuegos, discussions focused on the challenges of an aging population and the double burden of work and domestic labor for women.

During the celebrations, members also voiced strong condemnations of the United States economic blockade. They described its impact on daily life, specifically citing difficulties in accessing essential medicines and medical supplies due to financial and logistical restrictions. The FMC continues to emphasize its mission of social prevention, family support, and the economic empowerment of women amidst the country's complex economic landscape.
