Cuba celebrates 66th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women

Cuba is celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Federación de Mujeres Cubanas (FMC). The commemorations include national ceremonies, regional celebrations in provinces such as Villa Clara and Las Tunas, and various community activities including voluntary agricultural work.

During a central ceremony led by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, several high-level honors were bestowed. Tamara Silvia Columbié Matos received the ‘Heroína del Trabajo’ title, and Cedalia Cabrera Monte was awarded the Lázaro Peña Order of the First Grade. Additionally, hundreds of women across the country received the ‘23 de Agosto’ distinction.

The FMC, founded by Vilma Espín and supported by Fidel Castro, was also recognized by the Central Workers' Union of Cuba (CTC) with an innovator's replica of Fidel Castro's ID card, acknowledging the organization's role in national economic and social development. The anniversary events serve to honor the historical legacy of the organization and its female members' contributions to the country.
