Federation of Cuban Women to celebrate 66th anniversary

The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) is preparing to celebrate its 66th anniversary. In the Granma province, Marielena Hechavarría Carralero, the FMC general secretary, announced a series of activities including political, cultural, and sporting events. Key scheduled events include a decoration ceremony at the Bayamo Theater on August 18 to honor outstanding members, and a provincial act at the Plaza de la Juventud in Cauto Cristo on August 20.

Other planned activities include mass voluntary work on August 21, centered in Bartolomé Masó, and a bicycle ride starting in Jiguaní. Despite the complex national situation, officials emphasized the continued resistance and social participation of women in various revolutionary tasks.

Founded on August 23, 1960, by Vilma Espín with the support of Fidel Castro, the FMC has historically focused on promoting women's participation in social, economic, and political spheres. The organization has been central to advancing women's rights in education, health, labor, and reproductive rights across Cuba, including significant leadership roles in provinces like Pinar del Río.
