Federation of Indian Pilots seeks role in Air India crash probe review

The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has formally requested the Civil Aviation Ministry to include professional pilots in any independent review of the draft final investigation report regarding the Air India AI171 crash.

The crash occurred on June 12, 2025, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner traveling from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick went down, resulting in 260 fatalities. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is currently working toward completing its probe, with a final report expected by October 2026.

In a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, the FIP expressed concerns regarding technical discrepancies and requested to be nominated as an independent technical stakeholder. The pilots' body has specifically called for a detailed examination of technical evidence, including the aircraft’s electrical systems and the Ram Air Turbine.
