Federation of Indian Pilots seeks deep probe into Boeing 787 electrical systems
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has called on the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to conduct a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation of electrical, electronic, and avionics evidence regarding the fatal Air India AI-171 crash.
The crash, involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (registration VT-ANB), occurred on June 12, 2025, during a flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. The accident resulted in 260 deaths, including 241 people on board and 19 on the ground. Victims included citizens from India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada.
FIP President Captain CS Randhawa emphasized that the Boeing 787’s highly integrated ‘More Electric Aircraft’ architecture requires intense scrutiny of power distribution, data-network performance, and software functionality. The pilots’ body urged investigators to review historical maintenance logs, technical entries, and recurring fault reports.
Additionally, the Foundation for Aviation Safety (FAS) has reportedly provided the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch with hundreds of non-public documents. FAS claims these documents detail chronic and systemic failures within the aircraft’s electrical and flight-computer systems that may be relevant to the accident causation.
