Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles celebrates annual holiday under police surveillance
The Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles celebrated its annual holiday, officially observed on September 27, which commemorates the 1830 revolution against the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.
In Brussels, the festivities were held under heightened police surveillance due to ongoing tensions with teachers regarding government reforms. While security checkpoints were established at various street entrances to prevent potential protests, no incidents were reported.
The official ceremony included speeches from the President of the Parliament of the Federation Wallonie-Bruxelles and Minister-President Elisabeth Degryse. Degryse acknowledged the difficulty of recent government decisions that have caused anger and misunderstanding but stated that the administration is following a trajectory toward its 2029 objectives. The event also featured a performance by the singer Anouk.
