Federauto calls for credible CO2 targets and technological neutrality
Massimo Artusi, president of Federauto, has called for credible targets and technological neutrality regarding the revision of European CO2 emission regulations for light vehicles. He emphasized that the current legislative process involves a necessary balance of powers between the European Commission, the Council, and the Parliament.
Artusi noted that the decision to use a 2025-2027 average calculation was intended to provide the industry with necessary flexibility and avoid multi-billion euro sanctions during a difficult period for the automotive sector. He argued against interpretations that suggest the Commission is contradicting itself, stating that the regulatory adjustments are a result of institutional synergy aimed at supporting the energy transition pragmatically.
