Federcaccia Umbra criticizes delays in wild boar hunting regulation reforms

Maurizio Lorenzini, president of Federcaccia Umbra, has criticized recent setbacks regarding proposed changes to wild boar hunting regulations in the Umbria region. Following a meeting of the regional fauna-hunting council, Lorenzini expressed frustration that previously discussed modifications are being reconsidered despite a long period of consultation involving various hunting and agricultural associations.

Lorenzini stated that while Federcaccia and the CPA (Hunting, Fishing, Environment) have maintained their agreed-upon positions, other groups have engaged in what he describes as “second thoughts and steps backward.” He argued that such behavior undermines institutional credibility and leads to systemic stagnation rather than protecting hunting interests.

The association emphasizes that hunting management must evolve to address modern challenges, including wildlife management and agricultural damage caused by ungulates, noting that current frameworks are based on thirty-year-old models. While acknowledging Regional Councilor Simona Meloni’s willingness to engage in dialogue, Lorenzini stressed that reforms must be implemented and evaluated before they can be judged.
