Federconsumatori Toscana reports unfair practices in used car market

Federconsumatori Toscana has released a report mapping widespread unfair practices in the used car market following 293 legal cases filed in the first half of 2026. The findings highlight significant issues affecting consumer mobility, road safety, and household finances.

Key problematic practices include the evasion of legal warranties on used vehicles, where professional sellers allegedly shift repair costs for hidden defects onto consumers. Other issues identified include factory defects in new vehicles with unavailable spare parts, failure to notify owners of official recall campaigns, and the inclusion of unauthorized or opaque insurance policies and financing during the purchase process. Additionally, the report notes arbitrary credit card charges within the car rental sector.
