Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia to miss World Cup season start

Italian alpine skiing stars Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia will both miss the start of the World Cup season in Sölden.

Brignone, a double Olympic champion, is recovering from a third knee surgery performed in late August to remove a plate and screws following a serious injury sustained in April. She will miss the giant slalom in Sölden on October 24 and the entire North American tour in November and early December. She aims to return to competition on the European circuit starting in mid-December, once she has regained her sensation on skis.

Sofia Goggia is also sidelined after being weakened by two viral illnesses during training preparations in Argentina. Goggia reported experiencing fatigue and exhaustion, noting that she requires more time to overcome the effects of the virus before she can return to racing.
