Federico Coria considers retirement after Buenos Aires Challenger loss

Argentine tennis player Federico Coria has expressed uncertainty regarding his professional future following a second-round loss at the Buenos Aires Challenger. Coria, formerly ranked 49th and currently 902nd, fell 6-4 and 7-5 to Brazil’s Eduardo Ribeiro at the Racket Club de Palermo.

The 34-year-old athlete has struggled to regain competitive form following a right elbow surgery and subsequent muscle tears in his abdomen and quadriceps. During a post-match press conference, Coria admitted he is unsure of his strength to continue his career.

Coria had previously set a personal challenge: if he does not win a tournament by the February 2027 Argentina Open, he will retire. Following his defeat, he appeared emotional while addressing the crowd, leaving the possibility open that this may have been his final appearance on clay courts.
