Federico García Lorca honored in theatrical tributes in Venezuela and Spain

Cultural tributes to the Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca are being held in Venezuela and Spain.

In Caracas, Venezuela, the Compañía Nacional de Teatro (CNT) premiered the immersive play ‘Granada, traición y crimen’ at the Teatro Alberto de Paz y Mateos. Directed by Aníbal Grunn, Carlos Arroyo, and Rufino Dorta, the production features 41 artists and commemorates the 90th anniversary of Lorca’s execution by the Franco regime. The play explores the poet's life and artistic legacy and will run until September 13.

In Vilagarcía, Spain, local authorities and the Mesa das Verbas organized a poetic and musical event to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the visit of ‘La Barraca’ to the town. Co-directed by Lorca during the Second Spanish Republic, the theater troupe visited Vilagarcía on August 29, 1932. The commemoration honors the historical impact of the troupe’s mission to bring classical theater to smaller communities.
