Federico Venco funeral held after fatal act of altruism

The communities of Samarate and Somma Lombardo gathered at the Church of the Purification of the Virgin Mary to hold a funeral for 36-year-old Federico Venco. Venco was killed after stopping his motorcycle to assist a woman in distress.

According to reports, the victim was fatally attacked by 44-year-old Mirko Bertellini, who had mistakenly identified the woman as his ex-partner's new companion. Bertellini is currently in custody facing charges of aggravated voluntary homicide. The woman had lost her phone and was unable to find her location when Venco offered his help.

Local officials, including the mayors of Somma Lombardo and Samarate, attended the ceremony. The Mayor of Samarate, Alessandro Ferrazzi, stated that they will officially request that President Sergio Mattarella grant a formal recognition to Venco's memory for his exceptional altruism.
