Federico Viñas signs with Mexican side Toluca

Uruguayan striker Federico Viñas has completed a transfer from Spanish second‑division club Real Oviedo to Liga MX team Toluca. The deal, valued at roughly $10‑11 million, was finalized after negotiations involving Grupo Pachuca, which holds Viñas' playing rights.

Toluca secured the forward despite interest from European clubs such as Sevilla, Wrexham, Elche, Deportivo La Coruña and AjaX, many of which were deterred by the player’s salary demands. Coach Antonio Mohamed expects Viñas to bolster the attack alongside Paulinho, Victor Guzmán and Erick Gutiérrez.

The move was confirmed after a medical exam in Mexico, with Viñas set to join the squad ahead of the Apertura 2026 season.
