FeDerSerD experts warn of emotional dependency on AI
At the XV National Congress of FeDerSerD in Naples, experts raised concerns regarding emotional dependency on artificial intelligence. The discussion highlighted how AI is rapidly transforming human communication, comfort-seeking, and relationship-building.
Paolo Omero, an AI expert from infoFactory, noted that AI models are increasingly capable of interpreting emotions and adapting responses to user needs. Citing a Harvard Business Review report, Omero pointed out that ‘therapy and companionship’ have ranked as the top use case for generative AI for two consecutive years. This shift suggests that users are moving beyond seeking practical information toward using chatbots for psychological support and continuous emotional connection.
