FedEx expands autonomous trailer loading AI at Maryland hub

FedEx Corp. announced an expanded collaboration with warehouse‑automation specialist Dexterity Inc. to scale the company’s autonomous trailer‑loading system across its Hagerstown Hub in Maryland. The rollout moves the technology from a pilot phase to production at a significantly larger operational scale, using Dexterity’s Foresight world model and the dual‑armed robot called Mech to load tens of thousands of trailers daily.

The deployment aims to automate one of the most physically demanding workflows in parcel logistics, improving safety, speed, reliability and flexibility while integrating the AI into broader hub operations such as destination planning, trailer assignment, maintenance and workforce processes. "This expanded collaboration with Dexterity reflects our commitment to advancing capabilities that improve how we operate today while helping prepare our network for the future," said Kawal Preet, executive vice president of planning, engineering and transformation at FedEx.
