FedEx honors founder with airport renaming and community initiatives

FedEx is implementing several initiatives to honor its founder, Frederick W. Smith, and expand its community impact. In Memphis, the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority has renamed Memphis International Airport to Frederick W. Smith International Airport. This dedication recognizes Smith’s role in transforming Memphis into a global logistics hub since founding Federal Express in 1973.

To celebrate his legacy, FedEx launched the FWS Day of Service as part of a global Purple Week, featuring over 120 volunteer events. The company also unveiled a new mural in Memphis depicting Smith’s portrait.

In Thailand, FedEx has signed a two-year Memorandum of Understanding with the Mirror Foundation. This partnership aims to create livelihood opportunities for elderly and unhoused populations through community and environmental programs. Initial efforts include a waste recycling program where donated materials are sold to generate income for community members, alongside organized events like the FedEx Run.
