FedEx secures 20 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel through 2027

FedEx has secured agreements to procure more than 20 million gallons of neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through 2027. These deals will support operations at five major U.S. airports: Newark Liberty International, Oakland International, Miami International, John F. Kennedy International, and Dallas Fort Worth International.

The agreements are expected to provide SAF blends ranging from 30% to 50% at these locations, depending on infrastructure and availability. This initiative is part of FedEx’s broader goal to source 30% of its jet fuel from alternative sources by 2030 and its long-term commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2040 through a $2 billion investment in electrification, renewable energy, and carbon capture.

Company leadership noted that these expansions are supported in part by state and federal incentives. Chief Sustainability Officer Karen Blanks Ellis stated that increasing procurement helps bolster demand for greater production and scale, which is necessary to make the fuel supply reliable and affordable for the market.
