Fedor Emelianenko challenges Randy Couture to MMA superfight

MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko has expressed interest in a long-delayed superfight against Randy Couture. Speaking at a Ki MMA press event in New York, Emelianenko stated, “I believe Randy would be much more interesting as a fighter. I’m ready if he’s ready.”

The potential matchup has been a topic of discussion since 2007, when a planned bout between the two heavyweights was prevented by contract litigation involving the UFC.

Emelianenko, currently 50, noted that he continues to train in Russia. However, significant obstacles remain, most notably the age gap, as Couture is 63. While North American commissions may be unlikely to license a fighter of Couture's age, the new Ki MMA promotion, led by Scott Coker, is expected to debut in early 2027 with events potentially held in Japan.
