Fehérvár FC sale fails as second bidder withdraws
The sale of the Hungarian football club Fehérvár FC (formerly Videoton FC) has failed again after the second-place bidder, the British-Italian Racing City Group Ltd., withdrew from the process. András Cser-Palkovics, the Mayor of Székesfehérvár, confirmed that the company was unable to provide the required bank guarantee to prove its financial capacity to maintain the club.
During the tender, Racing City Group Ltd. had proposed an investment of 5.3 billion forints. However, the municipality maintained strict conditions to ensure the club's long-term stability and avoid future financial burdens on the city. Because no agreement was reached, the city council must issue a new tender for the sale of the club.
It is reported that Final Third LLC, a US-registered entity that originally won the first round of bidding in July with a 775 million forint offer, may re-enter the process. Negotiations with Final Third LLC had previously stalled, leading to the subsequent round of bidding with Racing City Group Ltd.
