Feira de Santana monitors chickenpox outbreak in school
The Municipal Health Secretariat of Feira de Santana is monitoring a varicella (chickenpox) outbreak at a local educational institution. To date, 14 cases have been confirmed, consisting of 12 students and two teachers.
Epidemiological Surveillance teams have conducted technical visits to the school to track the cases and monitor individuals who had contact with those infected. Health Secretary Rodrigo Matos stated that the concentration of cases in a single institution exceeds expected numbers for the population and period, qualifying it as an outbreak. However, he noted that the situation should not cause alarm.
Control measures are being coordinated with local health units. These actions include identifying susceptible contacts to evaluate the need for intervention, which may include block vaccination depending on individual assessments. Families are advised to monitor for symptoms such as fever, malaise, and red spots that develop into blisters.
