Brazil municipalities announce free public transport for election runoff

Numerous Brazilian cities and states have implemented free public transportation measures to facilitate voter access during the second round of the 2026 elections on October 25.

In the Northeast, João Pessoa will offer free service across 81 lines, while Salvador’s metro system will provide free passage between Salvador and Lauro de Freitas. Camaçari and Feira de Santana are also providing specialized transport and accessibility measures. In Paraíba, the state has authorized free intermunicipal road and water transport, including the BRT Metropolitano.

In the South and Midwest, Campo Grande, Divinópolis, and Lucas do Rio Verde have confirmed free urban transit. In Tocantins, free services will extend to urban, rural, and intermunicipal routes. In Barbacena, the municipal decree ensures free service from 5h to 21h. In Feira de Santana, the Public Defender's Office has requested specific measures to prevent the transport shortages reported during the first round.
