Campo Grande authorities fine scrap yards in metal theft crackdown
The Municipal Civil Guard (GCM) in Campo Grande has conducted inspections under 'Operação Ferro-Velho' to combat the theft and receiving of metallic materials such as aluminum wires, cables, and copper. During recent operations, authorities identified irregularities in scrap yards, resulting in fines totaling R$ 20,000 for two establishments found with undocumented inventory.
According to the Special Secretariat for Security and Social Defense (Sesdes), these inspections aim to disrupt the entire criminal chain, from the initial theft to the commercialization of illicit goods. In the first eight months of the year, the GCM has carried out 104 inspections of scrap yards, leading to the recovery of materials without proven origin, 15 citations, and 24 environmental notifications.
