Brazil's Procon agencies audit June festival prices and teach consumer rights

The municipal consumer protection office (Procon) in Feira de Santana completed a price survey of 22 products commonly sold during the June festivals. The study, announced on 17 June, found significant price gaps—for example, peanuts ranged from R$ 9.90 to R$ 24.90 per kilogram. Results will be posted on the city’s and Procon’s social‑media channels to help shoppers find the lowest prices. In addition to price comparison, Procon inspectors examined product quality, expiration dates, storage and packaging, and announced plans to extend checks to fireworks stalls.

Procon Guarulhos organized a consumer‑rights workshop for 86 apprentices of the Espro training program. The session covered basic rights under the Consumer Defense Code, proper information, protection against abusive practices and how to lodge complaints.

Procon Petrópolis visited merchants at the 37th Bauernfest, distributing material that stresses clear price displays, accepted payment methods, respect for priority service and prohibition of hidden fees. The office provided contact details for consumer complaints via e‑mail and phone.
