Feira de Santana resumes Pérola Negra project for Afro-Brazilian culture

The municipality of Feira de Santana is resuming the ‘Edital Pérola Negra’ project to support Afro-Brazilian cultural manifestations. The Municipal Secretariat of Culture, Sport, and Leisure (Secel) held a meeting to present details of the initiative to representatives of carnival entities.

The project, originally created in 2018, aims to strengthen the representation and activities of African-matrix cultural expressions. The upcoming call for proposals is expected to open with 25 vacancies distributed across two categories. Local leaders noted that the initiative is a significant step toward democratizing access to resources and empowering black cultural movements, such as afoxés, within the city.
