Feito Pipa selected to represent Brazil at the 2027 Oscars
The Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Visual Arts has selected the film ‘Feito Pipa’, directed by Allan Deberton, to represent Brazil in the race for the Best International Feature Film at the 2027 Oscars. The film was chosen from a shortlist of six finalists, which emerged from a total of 15 eligible entries.
Set in the sertão of Ceará, the film follows Gugu, an 11-year-old boy played by Yuri Gomes, who is deeply passionate about football, dance, and makeup. The narrative explores themes of family, childhood, and maturity as Gugu navigates his relationship with his grandmother, Dilma (Teca Pereira), and faces the possibility of moving to live with his father, Batista (Lázaro Ramos).
‘Feito Pipa’ has already received significant international recognition, including winning the Crystal Bear and the Grand Prix of the International Jury at the Berlin International Film Festival’s Generation Kplus section. It also earned multiple awards at the Gramado Film Festival, including Best Direction and Best Film by the Popular Jury. The film is scheduled for a Brazilian theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
