Feline behavior studies reveal strong emotional attachments to owners
Veterinary experts and scientific research indicate that cats form strong emotional attachments to their owners, challenging the perception that they are purely independent or distant animals. A study from Oregon State University published in Current Biology found that approximately 64% of kittens showed secure attachment patterns, using their caregivers as a source of comfort in unknown situations.
Because of these bonds, prolonged absences can cause significant stress in felines. Veterinarians suggest that while a healthy adult cat can typically remain alone for 8 to 12 hours, they should not be left unattended for more than 24 hours without intervention. For absences exceeding this period, experts recommend hiring a cat sitter or utilizing specialized feline hotels to ensure consistent feeding, hydration, and social interaction.
