In Mexico, Profeco conducted laboratory tests on 54 brands of wet cat food to ensure they meet established standards and provide adequate nutrition. Consumers are advised to prioritize products where animal protein is listed among the primary ingredients.
Veterinary specialists emphasize that cats are masters at hiding illnesses. To detect issues like diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or heart disease, owners should monitor daily routines and schedule one to two annual medical checkups. Changes in appetite, grooming, or vocalization are key warning signs.
Regarding behavior, veterinarians note that cats do not avoid litter boxes out of spite. Inappropriate elimination is often linked to stress, hygiene, or environmental factors such as the texture of the litter, the size of the box, or its location in high-traffic areas.
