Felipe Chávez joins FC Magdeburg on loan from Bayern Munich

Peruvian midfielder Felipe Chávez has joined FC Magdeburg in the German second division (2. Bundesliga) on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich. Although Chávez recently extended his contract with Bayern until 2028, the move to Magdeburg is intended to provide the 19-year-old with more playing time and professional consistency.

Peru national team coach Mano Menezes addressed Chávez's move, stating that playing in a lower division does not automatically disqualify a player from national team consideration. Menezes emphasized that he evaluates players based on individual characteristics and performance rather than the specific league level.

Local media commentary has been mixed regarding the transfer. Journalist Giancarlo Granda expressed a cautious view, noting that while Chávez is a talented player, he should not be burdened with the expectation of being the savior of Peruvian football, comparing the move to the early careers of players like Jefferson Farfán and André Carrillo who played for larger European clubs.
