Felipe Souza, former El Tri guitarist, dies at 61

Mexican rock musician Felipe Souza has passed away at the age of 61. His death was confirmed on September 4, 2026, by his family and the musical groups with which he collaborated.

Souza was a guitarist, composer, arranger, and producer known for his work with prominent bands such as El Tri and El Haragán y Compañía. During his tenure with El Tri between 1991 and 1993, he contributed to productions including ‘25 años’, ‘Hoyos en la bolsa’, and ‘Un cuarto de siglo’. He also co-wrote the well-known song ‘Pobre soñador’ alongside Alex Lora.

A trained musician, Souza attended a summer course at the Berklee College of Music in 1981. His career was marked by a deep involvement in the Mexican rock and blues scene, extending beyond performance into musical production and arrangement.
