Felipe Vasques targeted in Federal Police operation for alleged electoral crimes

The Brazilian Federal Police conducted a search and seizure operation against recently elected state deputy Felipe Mikael Vasques Monteiro in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará. The investigation, supported by the Public Ministry of Ceará (MPCE), focuses on allegations of electoral crimes and embezzlement.

Investigators suspect that while serving as President of the Juazeiro do Norte Municipal Chamber, Vasques used the chamber's communication staff for self-promotion. There are also allegations that public servants participated in political events during working hours, potentially causing the interruption of essential public services.

This action is linked to 'Operação Aletheia', which investigates a scheme involving the redirection of public tenders and fraud in contracts for engineering works and services. The suspected fraud involves an estimated amount exceeding R$ 43 million, allegedly utilizing shell companies controlled by a single group to manipulate bidding processes. Vasques had previously been subject to precautionary measures, including the suspension of his public functions.
