Felix Rosenqvist Wins 2026 Indy 500 in Historic Photo‑Finish; Malukas Second, Palou Penalized
Felix Rosenqvist captured the Borg Warner Trophy at the 2026 Indianapolis 500, edging out David Malukas by just 0.0233 seconds in what officials called the closest finish in the race’s 110‑year history. Malukas, driving for Team Penske, described his reaction as "a lot of anger, a lot of pain" after narrowly missing victory for the second consecutive year. Scott McLaughlin finished third for Team Penske.
Defending champion Alex Palou, who started on pole, ended the race in seventh place and was subsequently docked five championship points and fined $10,000 after post‑race inspection found his front wing did not meet the minimum 8.3‑inch measurement, an assembly error the team said was unintentional. Despite the penalty, Palou remains the IndyCar points leader with a 37‑point advantage over Malukas. The race also featured veteran drivers Helio Castroneves, Takuma Sato and Ryan Hunter‑Reay seeking additional victories.
The event, held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana, underscored the tight competition and technical scrutiny that shape the IndyCar series.
