Fem van Empel joins FDJ United-Suez for cycling comeback

Dutch cyclist Fem van Empel is returning to professional racing, having signed with the French team FDJ United-Suez with immediate effect. The 24-year-old, a three-time cyclocross world champion, had previously announced an indefinite hiatus in late 2025 to focus on her mental and physical well-being.

Stephen Delcourt, General Manager of FDJ United-Suez, stated that the team's priority is to support van Empel in rediscovering the joy of cycling and helping her thrive both as an athlete and a person. The signing is part of the team's broader multidisciplinary project, which also includes riders Anja Grossmann and Kate Courtney.

Van Empel expressed her enthusiasm for the new chapter, stating, “I am ready for a new adventure and am excited to start from scratch. Above all, I want to have a lot of fun.”
